Security enhanced at the Kenyan coast

Sea and land patrols have been intensified at the Kenyan coast to check on threats posed by international terrorism and drug traffickers.
This comes after families fleeing renewed hostilities in central and Southern Somalia trickled into the country seeking refuge, a chance that can be seized by terrorists to enter the country illegally. Coast Provincial Commissioner Ernest Munyi said as a result the government has beefed up security across the region and security personnel stationed along the common border with lawless Somalia. The PC was addressing 45 East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Members who are on a 10 day study tour of coast province.Munyi said there were fresh fears that international terrorists who have set up sleeper cells in the anarchic horn of Africa nation could slip into the country through the 1200 km stretch porous border Kenya shares with Somalia in the wake of renewed conflicts there. He expressed concern that security operations in response to terror threats from elements who have pitched tent in neighbouring Somalia was a ''drain on government resources''. more. http://www.kbc.co.ke/story.asp?ID=51904
