Addis Ababa, September 20 - The Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has saluted Uganda for sending a peace keeping contingent to Somalia, according to New Vision. The new IGAD Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim told journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday that Uganda's mission under AMISOM complemented unity talks brokered by the body. "What we are doing from the sidelines is to facilitate the parties to discuss an agreement. That's why countries like Uganda, Ethiopia and Burundi are there. They decided to use their human resource to facilitate the return of stability. We thank them," Maalim said.He added that the warlords in the country were about to reach an agreement. He explained that they signed a protocol in June in Djibouti and another last month in Addis Ababa. "The parties are agreeing to do business together," he commented. Maalim, who has been on a four day visit to Uganda, also thanked the government for supporting his candidature, New Vision reported.
