Two years after a U.S.-backed Ethiopian invasion, Somalia is once again at a crossroads, threatened by famine and war, and being overtaken by another Islamist insurgency.
For years Somalia has been a classic example of a failed state — it has not had a stable government since 1991 — but the country’s nightmare may only be just starting.
Ethiopian troops, who intervened to oust Islamists from the Somali capital Mogadishu, had been the main support for an internationally recognized transitional government.
