MV Star and MV Fiana, are Hawiye habargidir pirates
MOGADISHU, Somalia – Five of the HABAR-GIDIR pirates who released a hijacked oil-laden Saudi supertanker drowned with their share of a reported $3 million ransom after their small boat capsized, a pirate and port town resident said Saturday.
Pirate Daud Nure says the boat with eight people on board overturned in a storm after dozens of pirates left the Sirius Star following a two-month standoff in the Gulf of Aden that ended Friday.
He said five people died and three people reached shore after swimming for several hours. Daud Nure was not part of the pirate operation but knew those involved. more.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090110/ap_on_re_af/af_piracy
Habar Gidir clan jehadist fighters, the insurgents are assisted by foreign jihadists who introduced extremism – including suicide bombing tactics– to the Somalis who are known to be moderate Muslims. A few months ago, America declared Al Shabab as a major terrorist organization due to its links with Al Qaeda. The last two years, Al Shabab has killed 9500 Somali civilians and it often uses innocent Somalis as a shelter cover when fighting government soldiers. In addition to the Eritrean government's arming of the insurgency, VOA reported that pirates are financing the Al Shabab insurgency that is starving out and killing innocent Somalis. The pirates have also harmed the flow of ships carrying food aid to Somalis.
