UAE to Double National Security Spending Over 10 Years: Study

ABU DHABI - The UAE will increase its spending on national security from the current Dh20 billion ($5.6 billion) approximately to Dh40 billion ($10.9 billion) over the next 10 years, according to a study by the US-based Homeland Security Research Corporation (HSRC).
HSRC mentioned these figures in a report 'Global Homeland Security, Homeland Defence and Intelligence Markets Outlook 2009-2018', prepared in November last year. According to the report, government and private sector budgets for Homeland Security, Homeland Defence and Counter Terror Intelligence (HLS-HLD) will remain recession-proof and grow by 80% from Dh1.5 trillion by 2009 to Dh2.7 trillion by 2018.
Welcoming the reports on the prospects of increased spending by the UAE for national security in the coming years, the senior researcher at the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis, Dr Theodore Karasik, said, "This showed that the UAE is committed to providing 'best of the best' security to the people residing here."
The report states that several countries including China, India, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Turkey, are expected to double their national security spending over the next 10 years. Saudi Arabia, whose current spending on national security is Dh167 billion, is poised to increase it to nearly Dh308 billion .. more..http://www.zawya.com/Story.cfm/sidZAWYA20090208043655/UAE%20to%20Double%20National%20Security%20Spending%20Over%2010%20Years:%20Study
