Somali militia Terrorist behead rival clerics

MOGADISHU: Extremist militiamen beheaded two clerics from a rival group after stopping the vehicle taking them to be treated for wounds suffered in a gunbattle, a spokesman for the clerics’ group said. The clerics were members of Ahlu Sunna Waljama, which had been fighting against al-Shabab militiamen in the town of Balad, about 30 kilometres from the capital Mogadishu, said spokesman Sheik Abdullahi Sheik Abu Yusuf. Abu Yusuf blamed Terrorist al-Shabab for the beheadings on Thursday but said the clerics were not involved in the earlier fighting. Al-Shabab controls large chunks of the country, while battling government troops and African Union peacekeepers. Abu Yusuf said the clerics were unarmed when they were wounded. “They did not take part in the recent clashes,” Abu Yusuf told The Associated Press late on Friday. He said his group was defending itself against from al-Shabab attacks. Al-Shabab Terrorist was not immediately available for comment. US counterterrorism officials have warned of Al Qaeda’s growing ties with Somalia’s powerful Terrorist al-Shabab militants. Last year, the US State Department added al-Shabab, which means “the Youth”,” to its list of foreign terrorist organisations. ap http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/03/21/africa/AF-Somalia.php
