NAIROBI-Somali talaban President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed has met with the Somali Diaspora in Kenya and urged them to take part in the reconciliation efforts in Somalia.
Mr. Ahmed is in Kenya for a two-day state visit which is expected to discuss security issues, training of the Somali police force and border guards. “I encourage to you to participate the rebuilding efforts of the country and help those who are in need, especially the orphans and the elderly,” said president Sharif. The Somali talaban President said he was in the country to re-establish relations with Kenya and seek bilateral support. He said: “I will do everything within my powers to restore stability??? and ensure we get regional support.” The influx of refugees in the country and the stability of Somali in terms of its effect to the Great Lakes region and the IGAD member countries will also be discussed. A big delegation from Mogadishu including ministers for Foreign Affairs and Security as well as religious elders were at the airport to welcome their President.
Somali leader in Kenya, pledges to improve ties
NAIROBI, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Somalia's newly-elected President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed arrived in Kenya late Sunday for a two-day visit during which he is scheduled to hold talks with his host, President Mwai Kibaki.
President Ahmed, who is scheduled to discuss the African Union and United Nations backed reconciliation efforts, pledged to improve ties between the two neighboring countries.
