MOGADISHU, Somalia - Thousands of Somalis called for peace and Islamic law Thursday, staging a rally in their war-ravaged capital seen as a sign of support for the new moderate Islamist president.
The crowd, mainly women and school children, gathered at the city's main football stadium south of the city, carrying banners denouncing violence. The rally was organized by clerics and civil society groups.
