Prime Minister Meles Zenawi here on Tuesday held talks with Vice Prime Minister and Regional Cooperation Minister of Israel, Silvan Shalom. The two parties discussed on ways to further strengthen existing ties between the two countries and security affairs. Meles said on the occasion that Ethiopian Jews in Israel serve as bridge to further strengthen the age long ties between Ethiopia and Israel. He said Israeli investors have been engaged in floriculture development and other sectors in Ethiopia. The premier lauded the support being provided by Israel to Ethiopia in the agriculture sector. Silvan Shalom said Israel is desirous to strengthen existing age long bilateral relations with Ethiopia. Silvan Shalom said additional Israeli investors are interested to engage in various investment activities in Ethiopia. Israel is undertaking preparation to supply medicinal drugs in donation to Ethiopia. also..Prime Minister Meles Zenawi held discussion with United States Senator, James M. Inhofe on various issues of mutual concern.
United States Senator James M. Inhofe is here to attend the 120th IPU assembly taking place from 5-12, 2009. During the discussion, Meles said though the situation in Somalia is currently encouraging, it needs strong support from peace-loving nations of the world.
Meles also told the Senator that the conflict in Sudan must also be resolved before it becomes out of control. Senator Inhofe said on his part that Ethiopia must be admired for its contribution in the fight against terrorism. Ethiopia had deployed its disciplined and rule-guided military force to Somalia in order to check the expansion of terrorists in that country, the senator said.
