Mitch McConnell: Keep Gitmo open
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Sunday that Guantanamo Bay is “the perfect place” for terrorism detainees and argued that talk of closing the detention facility is aimed at currying favor with foreigners. “Look, this whole thing has been about making us popular in Europe,” McConnell said on “Fox News Sunday.” “We know how the American people feel about it. Correctly, they don’t want [detainees] in their neighborhoods. And you know, there’s been a position stated by some in the administration that there’s no problem incarcerating terrorists here. It is a problem. Ask the mayor of Alexandria. They had the [Zacarias] Moussaoui trial there a few years ago. It created significant disruptions.” The Kentucky Republican said President Barack Obama should keep Guantanamo open. “It’s a $200 million, state-of-the-art facility,” he said. “No one has ever escaped from there.” — Tim GrieveRepublicans to Pile On to Climate Bill Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee are considering introducing as many as 450 amendments during the markup of climate change legislation next week, according to a list obtained by POLITICO. ..more..http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22623.html
