President says Eritrean officers with Al Qaeda is behind the fighting in Mogadishu


Sharif Sheik Ahmed said Sunday Eritrean officers were taking part of the fighting in Mogadishu and accused Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys, Al-Qaeda offshoot Al-Shabaab the leader of the rebels that he was getting support from Eritrean officers in fighting against the government.
The president said in press conference he held in the presidential palace that the fighting in Mogadishu is being organized by Eritrean officers and that Sheik Aweys was leading it.
Somali president has so many times accused Eritrea in the fighting against his fragile government but this is the first accusation against Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys that the fighting is organized by Eritrean officers. The reporters asked the president about the shelling by AMISOM and government soldiers to some parts of Hodan district in Mogadishu and he replied that specific bases of “Al Qaeda cells were targeted”. He Repeated that Somalia was invaded by al Qaeda and foreigners were seen fighting along the Islamist rebels in Mogadishu.
He thanked AMISOM troops for their role in protecting the government and said that he hoped the AMISOM would be increased.
