DHUSAMAREB, Somalia Aug 16 (TF.SF) - Rival Islamist groups in central Somalia fought for three consecutive days over control of a small town in Galgadud region,
The battles erupted on Thursday, when at least 30 people were killed in fierce clashes between Al Shabaab insurgents and Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamee'a, an Islamist faction affiliated with Somalia’s UN-backed transitional federal government.Sheikh Abdullahi Abdirahman "Abu Qadi," spokesman for Ahlu Sunnah, told reporters via a Sunday telephone press conference that Ahlu Sunnah fighters control of the town of Gal'ad, in El Bur district of Galgadud region.
"We control Gal' ad [area] and 15 of our men were killed and 30 others wounded," Sheikh Abu Qadi said, adding that " at least 50 Al Shabaab fighters" were killed in the battles
