MOGADISHU: At least 19 people had been killed in fighting with al-Shabaab rebels since Sunday afternoon, Somali government officials have said.
Al-Shabaab, which Washington says is al-Qaeda's proxy in Somalia, hit the African Union peacekeeping mission in the capital with twin suicide car bombs on Thursday, killing 17.Residents said militiamen of the Ethiopian rebel group the Ogaden Liberation Front helped al-Shabaab drive out government forces from Yeed town on Ethiopia's border on Sunday.
They also crossed the border and looted property from an Ethiopian mining company, said a military official. - Reuters
