Italian President accepts credentials from Somalia's new Ambassador

Italian President Mr. Giorgio Napolitano has accepted credentials from Somalia’s new Ambassador Mr. Nur Hasan Hussein (Nur Ade).“The Italian government has welcomed us with respect and the Presidential guard saluted us before the ceremony started” said the Ambassador.When we asked how he feels about the fact that he is the first Somali Ambassador the Italian government accepted with the highest honour since the fall of the former government led by Siad Bare in 1990, he replied that he feels honoured and that he is delighted that the two friendly countries have re-established their historic relationship.Ambassador Nur Ade will be the Somali Ambassador to Italy as well as Somalia’s representative to the EU.After the ceremony, the new Ambassador met with the Somali community in Italy. The meeting was a celebration for the opening of Somalia’s Embassy in Italy after 19 years.Italy colonized southern Somalia and has always kept close relationship with Somalia. It continues to follow closely the situation in Somalia. Italy is also usually the EU contact for Somalia and various Somali governments consult with Italian government.Ambassador Nur Ade was the interim PM of the former TFG of Somalia led by President Abdullahi Yusuf and was instrumental in the negotiations between Islamic insurgents and the former TFG which led to the election of the current President Sheik Sharif Sheik Hassan, an Islamic scholar and former leader of the Union of Islamic Courts.
