The Ugandan police is to deploy anti terrorism squads at the country's border points to intercept suspected Somali militants, who have threatened to launch terror attacks in the country, police said here on Tuesday. Uganda's Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura said the units will help in security surveillance at the border for any suspected terrorists who might attempt to enter the country. "The border security has been one of our weaknesses. We are going to put dedicated police units at the border points. They will help in border patrols to counter terrorism," Kayihura told reporters. He warned the Al Shabaab, the militias who are fighting the Somali government, never to risk to attack the Ugandan capital, Kampala, saying they will be dealt and smoked out accordingly. Al Shabaab has threatened to launch attacks on the capitals of Uganda and Burundi for sending some 4,300 peacekeepers under the auspice of the African Union in the restive Horn of Africa country. "There is a looming threat by Al Shabaab. They plan to launch terror attacks. But if they attempt, we shall smoke them out. We have the capacity to deal with them," said Kayihura. The police has launched anti-terrorism community policing in the capital Kampala to counter terrorism, according to the police chief. "We want to involve everybody in security matters. Security is a common good. Its non-partisan," he said, adding the police has increased its vigilance and visibility in Kampala.He appealed to Ugandans in the busy and congested places like markets and taxi parks to be on the lookout and report any suspicious objects to the police for quick response.
