Al Shabaab claims responsibility for explosion at AU clinic in Mogadishu, Somali terrorists hit UPDF medical unit in Somalia,Al-Shabab Attacks Peacekeeping Hospital in Somalia
The Islamist insurgent movement of Al Shabaab in Somalia on Tuesday claimed responsibility for an explosion detonated the previous day at an outpatient clinic in an African Union (AU) forces base in Mogadishu.The blast took place while the clinic, which offers treatment for local people, was being closed at night. At least one person was reportedly killed ..The Islamist group of Al Shabaab said it was behind the attack in revenge for what it called indiscriminate shelling of residential areas by AU peacekeeping forces in Mogadishu"We thank Allah for success of the mission because we have inflicted huge loses on the enemy forces in revenge for the indiscriminate shelling of our people," Ali Rage, spokesman for the radical group, told reporters..Barigye Ba-hoku, spokesman for the AU peacekeeping mission in Somalia AMISOM, said for his part that he was not sure if the blast was caused by a mortar or a bomb planted in the clinic..The explosion took place hours after UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Somalia Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah visited Mogadishu for talks with senior government officials and AU peacekeepersAl Shabaab, which controls much of southern and cental Somalia, usually launches mortar and bomb attacks on the AMISOM and Somali government forces in Mogadishu.The AU forces from Uganda and Burundi numbering almost 5,000 are based in the restive capital, where they protect main government installations and provide much needed medical attention to local people.
