BELEDWEYNE (TF.SF)—fighters from Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a moderate Islamist organization have captured parts of Beledweyne, a strategic town in Hiraan region in central Somalia, witnesses said on Sunday. The seizure came after fighters from Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a attacked the town early on Sunday.
“I can assure you that the town of Baladweyn is fully under the control of the fighters of Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama, and the whereabouts of the defeated warriors of Hizbul-Islam is not
manifest, the officials of Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama are roaming around the town speaking to the inhabitants of the town through hailers, asking them to be calm and remain indoors” said Zakariya Hajji Ali a resident in Baladweyn town speaking to TF.SF Website on Sunday. The entire commercial activities in the town have frozen and the traders have hastily dashed to their houses.
The town of Baladweyn is one the very unfortunate towns in Somalia, because it is a very strategic town which is geographically located in a very excellent place and each and every faction wants the town to remain under his authority.

Residents say heavy fighting erupted between Ahlu Sunna waljama’a and Hizbul Islam group outside the town and routed the Hizbul Islam militants forcing them to retreat inside the town.Shuriye Farah Sabriye, one of Hizbul Islam officials in the town said they have been attacked by Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a and defended them. On his side, Aden Abdulle Awale from Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a said they secured the eastern part of the town and added that they will soon complete the fighting. Residents say the two sides have used heavy machineguns and mortars in the fighting which forced more civilians to flee from their homes.
