Premier discusses with Danish State Secretary
January 29, 2010 -- Prime Minister Meles Zenawi here on Thursday held talks with State Secretary of Denmark, Michael Zilmer-Johns.The two parties discussed on various issues related to Ethiopia, Africa , as well as continental and international issues. Meles on the occasion confirmed that the government is committed to make the upcoming national elections free, fair, transparent and credible. The Premier and the State Secretary exchanged views on issues related to the situation in Sudan and Somalia as well as in the African continent in general, according to a senior government official. The State Secretary on his part lauded contribution and constructive role of PM Meles at the Copenhagen climate change conference. The conference is a base for the agreement, he said, adding, contribution of Meles leading the African delegation to the Conference was center of attention. The Copenhagen conference has laid foundation enabling to reach binding agreement at a similar conference to be held in Mexico. The State Secretary said Ethiopia followed strong, accurate and constructive policy to avert the situation in Somalia, which was threat to Africa and European countries.Michael Zilmer-Johns said existing economic growth, improved democracy and good governance indicate promising situation in the continent.iThe African Union and other sub regional institutions have been able to take strong measures to find solution to problems in the continent.The measures taken to find solution to problems occurred in Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar are some of the examples in this case, he said.
