Al Shabaab Execute Man for 'Spying'
Somalia's most powerful militant group Al-Shabaab have reportedly executed a man accused of working with the fragile UN-backed Somali government and African Union troops in Mogadishu, Radio Garowe reports. The execution took place at an open ground called SYL in northern Mogadishu on Monday where dozens of Al-Shabaab's supporters gathered to witness the grisly act carried out by a firing squad,A judge for Al-Shabaab's "ad-hoc" Court found Abdi Hashi Siyad a Mogadishu resident aged 34 guilty of coordinating military operations for the embattled Somali administration, issuing the order for their execution in accordance to the group's strict interpretation of Islamic Law."The slain man was a spy for Somali government and Amisom, he pleaded guilty in front of the court," said Sheikh Omar, the judge who delivered the order for their execution in accordance to the group's strict interpretation of Islamic Law.He warned that "anybody found spying for the government would meet the same consequence."Al-Shabaab, which controls much of southern and central Somalia, has previously carried out without any due course public executions, amputations and floggings in various parts of the war-torn nation with victims not represented by any legal representative.
