Alleged Somali Pirates Face Trial In The Netherlands

Rotterdam, Netherlands (AHN) - Five alleged Somali pirates, aged 25 to 45, go on trial Tuesday in the Netherlands.
The suspects, on board a high-speed boat loaded with firearms, were arrested Jan 2 last year.
They were allegedly going to hijack the Dutch Antilles-flagged Samanyolu in the Gulf of Aden but were intercepted by a Danish frigate.
Tuesday’s trial of the alleged Somali pirates will be the first in Europe.
Rotterdam district court spokesperson Vincent de Winkel said the trial is expected to last five days.
Judgment will be handed down June 16.
If found guilty, the men could be jailed from nine to 12 years.
