high ranking official from pro-government Ahlu Sunnah Wal-Jamaa has lambasted the embattled transitional federal government of failing to honor a power-sharing accord signed on March in Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, Radio
Sheikh Omar Adan, the chairman of the group’s Shura committee said the agreement is so important to the country that if implemented would save the country from Al-Qaeda take over.
“Al-Qeada operatives are planning to take over the country and rule the people, to forge a united front against them, the Addis Ababa agreement should be implemented,”
"Ahlu Sunnah is prepared to join forces against Al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam but the TFG seems to be obstacle," he said, while noting that the group has settled the issues within itself and is fully backing the accord.
The agreement which was signed on March 15 in Addis Ababa gives Ahlu Sunnah five slots in the cabinet and top positions in the military and police. In what seemed gesture to accomadte the group into the government, Somali president Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed appointed a deputy commander from Ahlu Sunnah as army second in command.
The pro-government militia has been engaged in bloody conflict with Somali insurgents who are in control of large swathes of central and south Somalia.
