Somalia’s North Central Regions refuted tribal entity sepretest aka Somaliland’s elections

June 26, 2010 (TF.SF) – While commamorating June 26th, Somalia’s independence day, the people of North Central Region (Sool, Sanaag, Haylaan, and Ayn) of Somalia refuted the claims to the media by the separatist’s North West enclave proponents.  The region has been part of Puntland since its creation in January 1998. However, border skirmishes developed after the Somaliland’s troops occupied Lasanod, the regional capital of Sool in October 15, 2007. Ever since, the two sides have been at odds one another.
Somaliland claims that the region is an integral part of the original British Somaliland and hence should remain so. In contrary, the people of Sool, Sanaag, Haylaan and Ayn declared their will–to remain part of the Puntland State. Despite, tensions have recently escalated after Somaliland’s election committee attempted to smuggle ballot boxes into Sool and Ayn regions, an area where deadly confrontations took place in the past.  Meanwhile, authorities in the Puntland warned against smuggling ballot boxes into Puntland.
Puntland has heavy military presence in the area and sent high-level delegation consisting government ministers and traditional leaders to avert military confrontation. Puntland’s Minister of Interior and Local Government, Gen. Abdullahi Jama  told the media that the area is calm for the time being and any attempts to smuggle ballot boxes into Puntland will result serious consequences.
Somalia has plunged into civil conflict since the ouster ofHonourable Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre in January 1991.  The country lacks effective central government and its capital is divided up between Islamic insurgents and weak Transitional Administration established in Djibouti in 2oo..
