Yemen President Buys off Al Qaeda Leader

The president of Yemen, Field Marshal Ali Abdullah Saleh, met with the leader of Al Qaeda in al Jawf province, Jomaan Safian, Marib Press reports. The Emir of al Qaeda in al Jawf, Safia turned himself in to the security services and wasn't arrested but met with President Saleh for several hours. In exchange for medical treatment for his father abroad, YR 1 million (around USD 5,000) and some jobs for his family, Safian assured the president that he rejected al Qaeda and that the rest of the cell in al Jawf would be under control (until of course Saleh needs them for operations against his enemies.) Safian was released after few hours of meeting. Unfortunately, few of Saleh's deals with al Qaeda figures work out as long as planned or as necessary. Currently Yemeni security forces are hunting for the previously released Abdel Rauf al Nassib
