The African Union Peace and Security Council has expressed its concern at the continued precariousness of the situation in Somalia and the pursuit of acts of violence, AU said in a statement on Friday The council at its 241st meeting was briefed by special representative of the Chairperson of the Commission (SRCC) for Somalia Boubacar Diarra.The council strongly condemned once again the terrorist attacks being perpetrated by al Shababa and other armed group with the support of foreign elements.The council also noted the resignation of Prime Minister of the Somalia Transitional Federal Government (TFG), Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke, and encouraged the president of the TFG, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed to appoint a new Prime Minister.It encouraged President Sheikh Ahmed and the Somalia leadership to tirelessly work for the unity and cohesion within the Transitional Federal Institutions (TFIs) in order for them to fulfill its tasks and obligations under the Djibouti Peace Process.The council has also made request to other AU member States to contribute troops to the African Union Mission for Somalia (AMISOM) .It further called on those countries that have pledged support to potential troops contributing countries to AMISOM to honor their pledges.The council has also appealed for increased support toward the rebuilding of professional, national and effective Somali Security Force.It lauded the efforts being made by the commission towards the implementation of the decision of IGAD and AU Summits including the convening of meetings of military and security experts to work out a revised concept of operation for AMISOM.
