NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man on Wednesday admitted lying to federal agents investigating two men accused of trying to join a terrorist group in Somalia.Mohamed Osman pleaded guilty to making materially false statements to investigators in a matter involving international terrorism.The 19-year-old Bayonne resident said he denied knowing Mohamed Alessa and Carlos Almonte planned to travel to Somalia to fight against government and multinational peacekeeping forces.Alessa and Almonte were arrested June 5 at Kennedy airport as they prepared to board separate planes to Egypt. Both are charged with conspiracy to kill, harm and kidnap persons outside the United States.
Osman faces up to eight years in prison and maximum fine of $250,000 fine.
