Petition to Parliament and speaker of the House Sharif Hassan Aden

His Excellency Sharif Hassan, President of Parliament

Mr. Speaker:

We, the undersigned members of the Diaspora, are terribly dismayed with your attempt to stifle the nomination of Mr.Mohamed Abdillaahi Mohamed (Farmajo) for the office of Prime Minister. Mr. Mohamed was duly nominated by President Sheikh Sharif, and he is imminently qualified for the job. Your political dispute with the President and your insistence to secret voting portrays to the world that TFG leadership are looking at personal interests while the nation faces an external threat that not only wants to take over the state, but also to destroy the fabric of Somali society. This is totally unacceptable to the Somali people who are tired of the daily bickering with the TFG and its Parliament.

Mr. Speaker, since you lead the parliament, we call on you to end this deadlock, AND GIVE THE PRIME MINISTER NOMINEE A CHANCE FOR AN UP-OR-DOWN VOTE.

Our country is facing an incalculable danger radical insurgency and outside forces that want to see Somali divided and weak. History will not be kind to those who add to its difficulties. The political fires we witness within the TFG makes the Parliament and the government not only weak, but also illustrates to the world how the leading Somali leaders lack the understanding of not only the danger nation faces the urgent need to restore the broken relationships of the Somali people.

Mr. Speaker, we urge you to change to cooperate with the President before this dispute reaches to a level that can see the dismantling of not only the TFG but also your very parliament.

Mr. Speaker, you must move the business of the nation forward. The vacancy in the office of the Prime Minister cannot continue any longer. The enemy of nation is already taking advantage of the vacuum of leadership in our country. Just last week, the United Nations Security Council has received a proposal from Kenya to impose an air and sea blockade on Somalia. This is certainly a development that your government needs to understand in terms of its implications.

Finally, we call on you and the parliamentarians to repeal Article 40. Sub-Article 3; hereof the house rules procedure the so-called secret ballot clause since it contradicts the voting clause of the 1960 Constitution of the Somali Republic. It is our collective opinion that it must be repealed, because the harm it causes outweighs the good it promises.

Thank You and may Allah bless Somalia.
