Somalia leaders launch new political party

Over 160 delegates from Somalia converged in Nairobi, Kenya to attend the launch of Democratic Party of Somalia (DPS) as a political vehicle to tackle problems facing the nation. The party seeks to become a vehicle for change, growth and stability in Somalia.
It was officially launched by its chairman Eng. General Maslah Mohamed Siyaad said the party will observe international standards and laws of Somalia as it seeks solutions to political, economic and social problems. The son of former President Siad Barre said the party to contest the county’s general elections due in August 2011.
The chairman said formation of DPS is a result of challenges facing the Somalia nation. “The problems facing Somalia is not only affecting the county, but the region and the world. Our time has come to step up and lead the Somalia out of its misery and on the road of prosperity and equality. DPS will ensure that Somalia yet again becomes a proud member of the Africa continent as well as international community”, he says
According to one of coordinator General Mohamed Said Hirsi (Morgan), the party has all Somalia nationals. He said DPS is founded by the Somali people for the Somalia people to lead the way in creating stable and secure democratic nation. General Morgan added that DPS will seek cooperation with Transition Federal Government in developed Somalia’s future in all inclusive and participatory manner.
Others who attended the launch include deputy chairman Abdifatah Hassan Afrah, Spokesman Hassan Kuriya, Hon. Mohamed Ismail Buba, Ambasssador Mohamded Warsame Koimiko, Ali Mohmaded Adan, Dr. Muse Hussein Abdi, Dr. Ali Osman Osoble, Eng. Mohamed Adam Mohamed, Professor Yasin Sala Ali, Professor and Osman Baw –Baw.
