Somalia Prime Minister meets the Prime Minister of Italy
(Rome, 20 January 2011) Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed met today the Prime Minister of Italy, Hon. Silvio Berlusconi at the Office of the Prime Minister of Italy, Palazzo Chigi. Italy was the first country in Europe that the Prime Minister of Somalia visited since he was appointed as Prime Minister of Somalia.
Somalia Prime Minister gave briefing on current situation in Somalia to the Prime Minister of Italy which included security, reconciliation, humanitarian assistance, the progress of the current government in Somalia and the needs for the International Community to working with the Government of Somalia issues, such as the transitional task and the transitional period.
Prime Minister Hon. Silvio Berlusconi stated that they are very sorry on what is happening in Somalia and he gave full assurances and commitment to the Prime Minister of Somalia. Berlusconi stated that he will personally take a leadership on Somalia issues, and that the Government of Italy will increase its support to the Government of Somalia towards politically and financially. Prime Minister Berlusconi also stated that his government will do everything it can on issues of humanitarian assistance and development to Somalia. Berlusconi re-iterated that the relationship between the countries will be stronger from now on.
Both Prime Ministers discussed the need to re-establish good bi-lateral relations between the two countries, which had a long history. Other issues discussed included security, international terrorism and piracy.
