Officials Say Al Shabaab Members Arrested in South
Belet Hawo — Officials of Somali government in Gedo region of southern Somalia on Saturday said that they had seized members of Al shabaab movement.Abdi Mohamoud Nur, Somali military officer in the region says the government troops detained at least five fighters in an operation in Garbaharey town, the regional capital of Gedo region.
Nur spelled out the apprehended men were among thirteen combatants of Al shabaab who were making exploration and observations over the areas Somali forces stay at.He said 4 of them were taken to the border town of Belet Hawo for more investigations.
The government military officer eventually noted that they are committed to dislodging Al shabaab from Somalia completely.

Fighting Al Shabaab is a cash cow for Ethiopia. Ethiopia wanted the border towns of Luuq, Dollow, and Beled-Xaawo free from Shabaab but Shabaab to continue hold the rest south. The TFG troops said now and moved towards Ceel-waaq, and then on to Garbahareey. Ethiopian became alarmed with the victory over Shabaab and the hold of the territory's showing the outcome is not an outlier or fluke so they kidnapped Barre Hiiraale to put pressure on the TFG troops to return. They said no and have advanced beyond Garbaharey but they are still holding him. Lobbying with IGAD and other groups including TFG involvement to help release him is taking place.
Obliterating Shabaab from Gedo contrary to a lot of idiots here view is not a Ethiopian wish, it is something the people of Gedo have decided to do. Anyone with a brain obviously knows Ethiopia needs shabaab, and doesn't want them completely destroyed. Likewise shabaab always needs Ethiopia and always wants the Ethiopia 'threat'. Doesn't matter either way shabaab have been destroyed in Gedo and it is the only southern region that is almost 100% free from shishkabab using local Somali militias not Ethiopia soldiers
AL Shabaab and Ethiopia need each other. Al Shabaab to paint themselves as national heroes and Ethiopia to be the single African country getting 95% of the world's slated terrorist-fighting money in Black Africa. They arrest Barre as soon as Garbaharey was taken, and after Ceel-Waaq was taken, and after the TFG troops decided to head to Baardheere. They only want the border secured to serve as buffer zone not have Shabaab defeated.
