Deadly Fighting in Gedo.TFG Retakes Bohol-Bashiir Village

At least 15 fighters were killed and more than 25 injured in more than seven hours of heavy fighting between Transitional Federal Government (TFG) Troops and al-Shabaab insurgents in Bohol-Bashiir district, 27 km east of Luq district in Gedo region on Monday.

Reports in Somalia indicate that intense fighting between TFG  and Islamist militants The clash erupted after the TFG military attacked al-Shabaab fighters who recently made a military base at Bohol-Bashiir village as part of the TFG's renewed offensive to rid Somalia of Islamic militants. Residents of Luq district said that they could hear the sound of gunfire and heavy artillery throughout the day.“The fight started at 10:30am and continued until this evening. I visited the hospital I saw 14 soldiers injured,” said Haji Farah, a resident of Luq district.
Diyaad Abdi Kaliil, a TFG officer in Luq, told tf.sf  that three of his soldiers died in the fighting and 8 others were wounded. He added that they killed at least 12 insurgents in their attempt to seize the town.“Today we made a successful attack. We attacked terrorist bases in the region. We seized Bohol-Bashiir village and our troops are on their way to Yurkud, the next base we want to capture,” said Diyaad.Al-Shabaab spokesman on military operations Sheikh Abdulaziz Abu Musab held a press conference in Mogadishu and confirmed that TFG attacked their bases in Bohol-Bashiir, but claimed that his fighters defended the village and chased the attackers away.

“A pro-Ethiopia militia tried to seize Bohol-Bashiir but thanks to Allah our fighters defended the village and chased the enemy. We killed 15 soldiers and the village is our hand,” said Abu Musab.

Gedo region has been a battle zone over the past few months and the government forces have been making some success in capturing strategic military positions. Recently the TFG trained 1,000 soldiers in border town Dolo.
