Al-Shabaab demands money from farmers in Middle Jubba

Al-Shabaab militia in middle Shabelle has ordered local farmer in the region to pay $30 for every hectare of irrigated land along the bank of River Jubba.Al-Shabaab’s newly appointed Bu’ale district commissioner, Ma’alim Dahir Abu Ayman, told farmers in the area that there has been a change of administrative system in which the militia will work with the local farmers in the region.The militia’s new rules is said to be targeting local farmers in Bu’ale town and it’s environ, especially those farming along the bank of River Jubba, the only source of water for the farmers in the area.Speaking to somali redia Bar-kulan in mogadushu , some of the affected local farmers expressed outraged over Al-Shabaab’s compelling rules, demanding them to pay such amount of money during this time of hardship, saying that this was the toughest rule the militia has ever imposed on them.Just at the end of last month, Al-Shabaab militia in Lower Jubba region took over all irrigation system in areas like Bula-Gudud, Warkoy and Wamo canal, all situated north of the region.
