At least 20 people were killed Sunday evening in bloody fighting between the pro-government militia of Ahlu Sunna Wal-jama’a and Al-Shabaab militants in Busar, 40 kilometers east of the town of El Wak in the Gedo region of Somalia near the border with Kenya.The battle started after government troops and Ahlu Sunna forces launched attacks on Al-Shabaab bases in Busar.An Ahlu Sunna Wal-Jama’a spokesman said that 10 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in the fighting. Busar was the second position overtaken by Ahlu Sunna Wal-jama’a on Sunday in the Gedo region after fighters with the moderate Islamic group seized the town of Burdhubo.Fighting there claimed seven people and left others wounded. Ahlu Sunna forces killed at least five Al-Shabaab fighters, according to Sheikh Mohamed Hussein, spokesman of Ahlu Sunna Wal-Jama’a in Gedo.The spokesman added that his group, along with Transitional Federal Government forces, is planning a wider offensive attack against Al-Shabaab in the Gedo region.Al-Shabaab officials have not commented on the latest fighting in Gedo.In a separate conflict, two people were confirmed dead after fighting erupted Sunday in the Hess settlement near the town of Beledwein in the Shabelle Valley between pro-government forces and Al-Shabaab militants.Residents fled Hess for safety after fighting sparked in the settlement.
