NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — An army spokesman says Kenyan troops will push forward to the insurgent stronghold of Kismayo and will stay in Somalia until there are no Islamist insurgents left.Thursday's statement by Kenyan military spokesman Maj. Emmanuel Chirchir was the clearest statement yet of Kenya's intentions after it sent troops into Somalia last weekend. Kenya said it was retaliating for a series of raids by Somali gunmen who have abducted foreigners from Kenyan territory.Kismayo is the stronghold of Somalia's Islamist insurgency. Taxes from its port are its chief revenue stream after the insurgents were pushed from the capital in August.Chirchir said Kenyan troops took control of the southern town of Ras Kamboni on Thursday after al-Shabab retreated. more..
