The journey of capturing the Port City of Kismayo in Somalia has begun. Kenya Defence Forces fighter jets and naval warships are bombing the strategic sea port which is the last major stronghold of the Al-Qaeda linked terror group.

Military sources said the air strikes and naval bombardment of strategic militant positions and assets that started on Saturday evening has led to the death of several militants among them 8-key leaders in Kismayu.
“Some of the strategic positions attacked include the old airport which is currently serving as a training camp for the Al-Qaeda linked terror group”, the military source said.KDF troops says the attack is part of the initial stages of the Kismayo operation which aims at destroying all defensive positions of the militants in the sea Port City before AMISOM, TFG AND Ras Kamboni troops storm the city. The Port of Kismayo is al-Shabaab's last major stronghold. African Union Mission forces are approaching the city, advancing through Somalia's Lower Juba region.Al-shabaab fighters are reportedly fleeing the city as allied forces advances. KDF troops and allied forces are within 80 kilometres of Kismayo and they are targeting to capture the port city by August 20th. via Citizen News
