Army should be ready for final onslaught, says Fiqi

Somalia’s Defence Minister Abdikarin Hajji Mohamud (Fiqi) has urged the national army to get ready for a final push against Al-Shabaab militants in key towns.

The minister who visited frontlines in Middle Shabelle on Saturday said a major operation against the Al-Shabaab will soon be undertaken and is set to continue till Al-Shabaab militants’ surrender or get totally crashed.

Fiqi said the government will do its best to reconstitute the national army and give its soldiers all their rights.

The minister however cautioned the soldiers against human rights violations like rape and looting of properties, adding that whoever is found of such things will be executed. He urged the forces to be watchful of groups he said were out in tainting their good images.
