Somalia: Puntland Election 2014 Campaign Intensifies, Puntland politicians to pick new President

Garowe — Puntland Presidential candidates are intensifying their election campaign to shore up support for their political agendas as the election date draws closer, Garowe Online reports.
With five days left to of January 2014, when the forthcoming presidential election will be held, the campaign seems very intense in the state capital Garowe.
Following the first parliamentary session which brought together the newly chosen 66 members of Puntland parliament, the political atmosphere sent the presidential candidates into what is being billed as extraordinary mood.
The presidential candidates including the incumbent President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole who is seeking re-election for the state's top job are holding private meetings with the new MPs to gain votes.
The public opinion varies from one candidate to another and at public places the ordinary citizens have been exchanging views on the clue of politics and experiences in government services of each and every presidential candidate since the settlement of political dispute between President Farole and opposition presidential candidate two weeks ago.
Speaking to GO, Garowe resident said: "From now on, picking the right person for Puntland presidency is not an arduous task," revealing the magnitude of the public's evaluation.
Opposition presidential candidates who want to compete against President Farole outnumber 10 but they have begun to withdraw their candidacies.
Mohamed Ali Yusuf 'Gaagaab'-Former Finance Minister under former President Gen. Mohamud Musse Hirsi (Adde)'s incumbency yesterday pulled out of the election race during a news conference in Garowe.
On Friday, Haji Mohamed Yasin, a prominent businessman said he would not vie for Puntland presidency.
The Election Security Committee led by Gen. Saed Mohamed Hirsi (Saed Dheere) is in turn arranging effective security measures ahead of the presidential election day, with command posts being established in Garowe city neighborhoods amidst the second phase of the election security
