Hundreds of newly trained forces join Somali army

Saturday Janaury 4, 2014
New contingents of Somalia’s armed forces have successfully ended months-long training sessions at the ill-equipped 21st military training base in the city of Dhusamareeb, the provincial capital of Somalia’s central Galgadud region on Saturday.

Top  Somali army officials, the region’s governor and high-ranking officers from the moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a attended a colourful ceremony on Saturday which intended to mark on the graduation of 600 new recruits who ended four-month long military training at the recently reopened 21st camp.

The commander of 21st military camp, Colonel Sulub Ahmed Dirie who first addressed at the graduation ceremony of the new recruits said that the 600 strong forces were ready to defend their country from what he termed as ‘invading terrorists’.

“On behalf of Somali army chief of Staff, I would like to tell you that you will have your salaries and all rights that members of army deserved for—our federal government has drawn a new special program for the reformation of military in the 2014” General Abdullahi Osman Agey told the graduating army members on Saturday.

Mr Hussein Ali Wehlie, the governor of the central Galgadud region who finally addressed at the ceremony noted that the new recruits were fully praise worth in terms of their politeness and interest to serve for their nation and people.

“A giant task is a head of you, because some large parts in south-central Somalia are still under the hands of terrorists, as people living those regions are suffering  from too many problems and they wait from you to free them” the regional governor  Hussein Ali Wehlie told the new recruits.

“I swear in the name of Allah that I will defend the religion, the people and the country of Somalia from the enemy” every one of the newly trained forces said whilst holding his hand on the Holly book of Quran.

As a Muslim country, such swearing in marks the beginning of the task of every single person who embraces a national responsibility from the bottom up to the president of the nation.
