Strong indications that Somalia’s powerful security minister could lose his position, sources suggest

Mogadishu (terrorfreesomalia) – In light of the recent dismissal of Mogadishu’s mayor amidst accusations of irresponsibility and neglecting public affairs, it seems very likely that some more changes might occur involving some powerful cabinet ministers.
According to sources within the government, there are strong indications that the powerful minister of security Abdikarim Hussein Guled could be replaced within the next few days. The continuous and increasing  violence has led to calls and pressure from the public to replace the security minister, whom many blame for the lack of security in Mogadishu and the country in general.
A member of parliament told Harar24 on the condition of anonymity that “he failed to handle the security of the country”. “There have been prior calls for the removal of Abdikarim Hussein Guled. However after the recent attack on Villa Somalia it has become unbearable to stay quiet. The people are afraid and tired of this, it’s time for him to leave” said the member of parliament.
Many of Mogadishu’s residents’ also shared similar sentiments, a large amount of people blame his inexperience for all the problems. “He’s a school teacher, how can he be fit to be put in charge of the whole nation’s security? This is absolutely baffles me” said Abdirahman Osman who’s a shopkeeper in Mogadishu. “I’ve had to close my shop numerous times due to the insecurity over here, and I blame the security minister for that, he should be securing our nation” he further added. Numerous people also believe that one of the main reasons why Abdikarim Hussein Guled is appointed to such high and powerful positions is because he shares close ties with the President and is rumored to be in the same “Damul-Jadid” group as the President.
It’s not known yet who could replace Abdikarim Hussein Guled, some sources however suggest that the current defense minister will likely replace him. Other sources further suggest that Abdikarim Hussein Guled will be appointed to yet another powerful position in order for the “Damuljadid” group to keep their strong grips over the cabinet. It thus comes as no surprise that many are already accusing the new mayor of belonging to the “Damuljadid” group.
