Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed who visited the National Security and Intelligence Agency Headquarters where the cache of arms were displayed commended the operation by the security forces.
Last night's raid confiscated many arms.The aim of the operation was to ensure that the capital city is safe.

Mogadishu (terror free Somalia) Somali government security forces joint task force seized catch of arms and ammunition during an overnight operation in Wadajir district of Mogadishu on Saturday night, Security Ministry Spokesman said.

The catch of arms including landmines, hand grenades and large amount of ammunition were confiscated in a heavy operation conducted by both Somali Police and the National Security Agency [NISA] on Saturday night at Bulo Hubey neighborhood of Wadajir district.

“After receiving a valuable information from our security sources, the security forces conducted very tough and very important operation, during which the forces seized large amount of arms, ammunition and explosives,” Mohamed Yusuf, Security Minister Spokesman told journalists this morning.

The Minister of National Security of the Federal Government of Somalia General Khalif Ahmed Ereg said the security forces also apprehended people from the house where the arms were caught.

“We have seized these arms also we have arrested the people responsible for selling and distributing these arms to criminals and terrorists, and they should be brought to court of justice,” the minister added.

The Security Minister confirmed that the seized catch of arms were intended to sell into criminal groups including the Al Qaeda-linked group Al Shabab.

According to sources, the security forces arrested 14 people including senior government official Capt. Abdi Ileys who was linked to selling arms to Al Shabab and other criminal networks in Mogadishu.

“This is a big blow on the criminals and terrorists who are committed to kill our beloved people. I commend our security forces for carrying such important operations,” the Prime Minister added.
