UN aid worker gunned down in Somalia

MOGADISHU (AFP) – A World Food Programme (WFP) aid worker was shot three times in the head as he came out of a mosque in the coastal Somali town of Merka Friday, a local UN official and witnesses told AFP.
A colleague in the aid hub of Merka, south of the capital Mogadishu, identified the WFP employee as Abdinasser Adam Musa and said he was gunned down in the street just after dark."He was shot dead after his evening prayers. He was a WFP programme assistant in the town. We still don't know why he was killed," he said.
"I saw the WFP officer being near the mosque. He was heading to his home, which is very near the mosque. The assailants fled after shooting him three times in the head," said Yusuf Mohamed Ibros, an eyewitness and local resident.Aid groups said earlier this week that 24 aid workers -- 20 of them Somalis -- had been killed so far this year in Somalia, while more than 100 attacks against aid agencies had been reported.
