Somalia: Senior Al-Shabaab commander reported dead in Mogadishu
Mogadishu, 10 September 2010
During the last couple of days in the holy month of Ramadan, the AMISOM and TFG forces have defended well the so called “Final War” launched by the extremist group Al Shabab which has resulted in the death of many Al-Shabab militias and which credible sources now confirm includes the death of Al-Shabaab commander a 35 yrs old, from Hawiye clan (habar-gidir) Dahir Gurey Sheikh Ali Guled, known as  habar gidir hawiye 'Dahir Gurey'.

The Minister of Information Abrahman Omar Osman said: “We are very much concerned the influx of foreign jihadists coming to Somalia. The only way to stop Jihadists coming to Somalia is to have effective institutions which can bring peace and stability in the country. The TFG renews its appeal to the International community to support the TFG and AMISOM forces with a view to ending the atrocities committed by Al-Shabaab.” Al-shabaab have claimed the responsibilities of 11 July twin bombings in Kampala, as well the two separate suicide attacks in Muna Hotel on 24 August and the suicide attack in the airport on 09 September 2010. Al-Shabaab have continuously attacked the Government and AMISOM bases in Mogadishu during the last couple of weeks, but these attacks have been in vain due to the quality of the AMISOM forces. Under the current AU mandate, more troops are needed to control and hold more parts of the city to allow the government to function without the fear of constant attack.“The problem is now very clear. This is a global problem that requires a global solution."
