Kenya's anti-terrorist police have raided houses belonging to two terror suspects arrested last December over their alleged involvement in the detonation of a grenade inside a Kampala-bound bus in Nairobi.
Details over the raid which took place on Tuesday night were scanty but sources claimed on Wednesday the officers conducted a thorough search on controversial Imam, Abu Rogo, and his alleged accomplice, Abubakar Sharrif alias Makaburi in Saba Saba and Majengo areas.
Sources however told Xinhua that the relatives of Rogo were uncooperative, making the detectives work difficult and in the long run, they did not find any tangible evidence.
The duo were arrested last December and taken to Nairobi for interrogation, after which the anti terrorist police commenced investigations into the case.
Rogo, who is associated with several terrorism claims and bombing incidents in Nairobi, Kampala and Mombasa, is also said to be behind the massive recruitments of Muslim youths to join the Al- Shabaab group in Coast province.
In December, his supporters and rivals clashed at a local mosque, where Rogo was usually preaching, leading to a journalists being beaten up by the group.
Former Mombasa police chief Leo Nyongesa had confirmed to reporters that the suspects were being held for questioning over the blast.
Anti terrorism police boss, Elijah Rop said his role was to work undercover and he could not divulge any details.
Terrorists believed to be from an East Africa al-Qaeda cell killed 15 people when they drove a car bomb into a hotel near Mombasa on Nov. 28, 2002. Almost simultaneously, members of the group fired a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli airliner taking off from the Mombasa airport. The missile missed.
Despite running one of the most over-zealous counter-terrorism agencies in the Horn of Africa region, the Kenyan anti-terror agents have consistently arrested suspects but failed to secure a single conviction in a court of law on a terrorism charge.

We Are Winning the War on Terrorism in Horn of Africa
The threat is from violent extremists who are a small minority of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims, the threat is real. They distort Islam. They kill man, woman and child; Christian and Hindu, Jew and Muslim. They seek to create a repressive caliphate. To defeat this enemy, we must understand who we are fighting against, and what we are fighting for.
