With the situation of Somalis living in Libya becoming very desperate, the transitional federal government (TFG) of Somalia declared that it asked Egypt to accept Somali refugees attempting to escape from troubled Libya.
Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, who returned home over the weekend, said in an interview with the BBC Somali service that after prolonged talks, Egyptian authorities agreed to open its borders to Somali refugees from Libya.
“Also we discussed the matter with other countries bordering with Libya and we are very hopeful that they will also do the same as Egypt did—on behalf of Somali government I am grateful to Egypt for its acceptance to welcome Somali refugees who are escaping from unrest in Libya,” the prime minister stated.
“We are very sorry for what is happening in Libya and we share the problem with Libyan people,” the prime minister said, urging Libyans to end their differences by themselves.
