MOGADISHU, Somalia — A commander allied with Somalia’s government says pro-government forces captured a town near Kenya from al-Qaida-linked militants after hours of fighting.
Abdikafi Farah of the Ras Kabmoni Group that is allied with the fragile Somali government says hundreds of pro-government fighters forced al-Shabab militants to flee Dobley town early Sunday.
Pro-government troops have made gains against Islamist militants in southern Somalia in recent weeks. The troops forced the militants to abandon several western towns and strategic places in Mogadishu.
Dobley’s capture is part of an offensive aimed at ending militants’ lock on much of the country’s southern and central regions.

3 killed, 10 wounded in Mogadishu fighting

MOGADISHU – At least 3 people were killed and 10 others injured after heavy fighting and shelling between Somali government forces supported militarily by AMISOM forces and Al shabaab fighters rocked parts of Mogadishu on Sunday night.

Reports say that the fighting erupted after Al shabaab fighters waged a coordinated attacks different government and African Union peacekeepers in Mogadishu.

Most of the clashes have jolted the districts of Hodan and Howlwadag in the center of the capital city, Mogadishu.

Some of the bombardment exchanges are said to have landed far away from battle zones.

injured Al Shabaab Fighters Brought to Kismayo

Kismayo — Dozens of injured Al shabaab fighters from Dholey town, where fighting between Somali forces and Al shabaab took place one day ago, were brought to Kismayo town, about 500 KM south of Mogadishu.
Sources confirmed Shabelle Media Network that the wounded Al shabaab fighters were admitted medical facilities at the center of Kismayo town.
The number of the wounded is said were seven, three of them were high ranking Al shabaab officials.

Also, Hassan Abdurrahman Gumarey, an Al shabaab official was confirmed dead in the fighting that on Sunday rocked the border town of Dhabley.
Some reports suggested that during the battle, aerial strikes on were targeted Al shabaab officials, killing number of Al shabaab military officers.
