I just wanted to tell you that I have learned more about Somalia, and the Somali people, just by reading just a few incredibly informative articles on this blog, than I have learned in the past two years reading media articles from all over the world.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful blog; and I commend you and hope that you don't let up. I am an American living in Sweden now. The area I live in has many Somali families; and I have been very interested in learning about the culture and people.
I can see that the division within certain Somali communities (particularly in Minnesota) appears to be mostly caused by lack of good and honest information amongst Somalians, probably due to the shitty media situation in the U.S.A.
The Amina Farah Ali case, in Minnesota, really brought to light the lack of understanding of Al-Shebab by many who maybe have lived in the U.S. for a long time; otherwise, surely they would not believe they were doing anything good for the people there. I wish I could make the people in Minneapolis aware of your incredible blog.
Amina Ali's lawyer said this about Al-Shebab: "This was a popular movement. This was an insurgency of the Somali people" which is total bullshit.
Well, all I can do is tell a few people here and there about your blog; maybe that will help give you a little advertising. I have a few friends in Africa on FB & some Somali's living in Europe. I'll post the address to your blog, if that's all right.
THANKS.
