The Prime Minister of Somalia, Abdi Farah Shirdon Saaid, unveiled on Sunday (November 4th) a 10-minister cabinet for Somalia which he said was capable to "address the demands, the concerns and the expectations of all the different components and players in Somalia".
He said that taking into account the current situation he had "appointed a lean, effective cabinet that can lead the government in this difficult situation and that can bring full, reliable peace." The appointments try to balance the main clans. It includes two women and retains three ministers who had served during the former transitional government. Fozia Yusuf Haji Aden is appointed as Foreign Minister, the first woman to hold such a senior position. She described her appointment as "a victory for Somali women". Abdihakim Haji Mohamud Fiqi, a former senior official under the TFG, is appointed Minster of Defence. President Mohamud said the government had "made the cabinet of ten members to save Somalia" as it was difficult to include all sub-clans in cabinet. He stressed that "sub clans who missed themselves in the list should know that they are not hated". The cabinet list now has to be approved by Parliament and the Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari, said the list would be presented to parliament for approval as soon as possible
