Navy Reinforcements Join Destroyer To Free American Hostage From Somali Pirates
More reinforcements from the U.S. navy are still on their way to the area, and negotiators from the Pentagon and the FBI continue to talk with the four Somali pirates.
The hostage, the captain of the cargo ship Maersk Alabama, is in a lifeboat with the hijackers. He was captured after his crew of 21 men were able to take back their ship. The Maersk Alabama was on its way to Mombasa, Kenya on Wednesday when it was seized 300 miles off Somalia's coast.
Defense Sec. Robert Gates said in a press conference on Thursday at the State Department, "The safe return of the captain is the top priority. We obviously have a naval presence in the area and other assets, and we are obviously looking at our options. But again, foremost in our minds is the safety of the captain."
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the same presser called the hijackers "nothing more than criminals." She also sought to assure the international community, " Piracy may be a centuries-old crime, but we are working to bring an appropriate 21st century response... the State Department has been in the lead in helping to put together an international task force..more.http://www.jpservicez-searcharticles.com/article.detail.php/456523/44/Culture-Society/2027/News/Navy_Reinforcements_Join_Destroyer_To_Free_American_Hostage_From_Somali_Pirates
