Addis Ababa, August 2, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The four-week training on counter-terrorism, which was organized for Ethiopian law enforcement bodies and other officers, was concluded on Saturday.
The training of trainers (TOT), which is provided by officials from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Capacity Building Program against Terrorism (ICPAT), attracted 25 participants from the Federal Police, Regional Police Commissions, and Addis Ababa Police Commission.
Handing over certificates to participants at the Ethiopian Police University Collage, Director General of the Federal Police Commission Workineh Gebeyehu said trainees shall share the knowledge and skilled they obtained during the training to colleagues.
The training included, among others, courses on the causes of terrorism, migration and transnational crime, international conventions, community policing, mutual legal assistance, crisis management, border security management and terrorism financing, and money laundering.
Instruction was provided by staff members of ICPAT, International Organization for Migration, INTERPOL, London Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard), and Institute for Security Studies.
ICPAT disclosed that the course has so far been provided to law enforcement bodies in Uganda, Somalia, and the Sudan.
The counter terrorism course was developed by ICPAT in cooperation with the East African Police Chiefs Coordination Organization (EAPCCO).
