Another UPDF soldier was on Thursday killed in a battle with the Islamist fundamentalists in the Somali capital Mogadishu, writes Risdel Kasasira & Stephen Wandera.
The fallen soldier identified as Pte. Fortunate Mugisha, died in the clash with al Shabaab at the Villa Somalia.The African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) spokesman, Maj. Barigye Ba-Hoku confirmed the death to Daily Monitor on Saturday.“He died from his position. They (soldiers) were trying to disperse guys who were shooting at their positions. In retaliation, one of his colleagues fired a mortar which hit a wall and the fragment came back and killed him. He died as we were taking him to hospital,” Maj. Ba-Hoku said by telephone.Separately, the Somali community in Uganda on Friday requested Ghana, Rwanda presidents and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela to persuade the Somali warring factions to talk peace.“We have suffered enough. We request Mr Mandela, Paul Kagame, Mr John Kufour to bring both parties to talk peace.
