BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Monday that China will continue to play a constructive role in the peace process and rebuilding of Somalia, together with the international community.
China has consistently supported the peace process in Somalia and the transitional government's efforts to restore domestic peace, said Yang when holding talks with Mohamed Abdullahi Omaar, deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the Somali transitional government.
Yang said China cherishes the traditional friendship with Somalia and is willing to make joint efforts with the Somali side to further promote bilateral ties.
Omaar thanked China for helping Somalia in its development over the years, adding that he hopes China will continue providing valuable support for the peace process and the rebuilding of his country.
Omaar said that Somalia attaches importance to China's role in international issues and will continue its adherence to the one-China policy.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
Omaar arrived in China on Saturday for a working visit at the invitation of Yang.
